In 2017, the City of Durham announced the construction of a new seven-story, 1.2-acre parking deck bounded by Rigsbee Avenue, West Morgan Street and North Mangum Street, “with approximately 750-800 parking spaces.” “The new garage is necessary,” the press release explained, “due to an unprecedented demand for parking in City-owned public parking facilities.” The deck, which was budgeted at $23 million, opened earlier this year. The City of Durham tweeted about the excellent views from the roof level. This morning at 9:00 I went up to the roof level to take in the views.

What big, bright future is Durham planning!
